Installed the 64-bit version (by mistake)

Hey. I have a processor that says it supports both 32-bit and 64-bit, however I don't know which one I'm actually running on. I have a hunch I'm running the 32-bit, considering I get an error code saying that my setup.exe is not supported by Win32.

So I have a couple of questions:

1) Very Important: I put in the my email that I used and the last 5 digits of the credit card that I used to purchase Windows 7 so I can go back to the download page (https://windows7.digitalriver.com/DRHM/servlet/ControllerServlet) - and it says it can't "verify" me.

2) I have a back up disc coming to my house - but I don't know whether it is the 64-bit or 32-bit version, how would I be able to tell?

3) Is 64-bit that much different than 32-bit? The reason I wanted to get Windows 7 now was because I had to wipe my computer clean just a few days ago, so I thought "why not." It seemed to be running fine on 32-bit before (assuming it was on 32bit), so what's the difference?

Hi yoman3, and Welcome To The Seven Forums.
Could you please give your system specs, it would help us determine the system speed (32 or 64 bit).

If your system is 64 bit it is the best way to go. If it isn't you wouldn't be able to install the 64 bit onto a 32 bit machine.

Others will differ, but I personally run 32 bit on those specs. You need 4+ gigs of RAM to really see the effect of 64 bit, and it is only in programs that support and benefit from it which are rarely ordinary affordable consumer software.

When I tried 64 bit earlier the only program which was 64 bit on my system was Internet Explorer and it was buggy as a result. All the rest were installed in the 32 bit folder.

Hi Yoman, welcome to the Seven Forums.

1) It is impossible for us to tell you that. Where did you buy it? Did you receive a confirmation email, the download link should be found in the mail.

2) It is quite clearly written in to the disc.

That's a nice system. Upgrade the ram to no less then 4 Gigs, then go with the 64 bit OS. There are now a great deal of 64 bit applications on the market (MS Office 2010 Beta comes in both 32 and 64 bit, Adobe Photoshop CS4, and Lightroom come in 64 bit); just hunt around and you will find them. Also the 64 bit version of Win 7 will allow your computer to run the way it was designed too.
