I installed Ubuntu 11.10 recently. And I fully installed it. It is my OS now. Sadly I don't like it, and you cannot open .exe files easily. ( I know it was my fault for installing Ubuntu.)

So I was wondering, if you guys knew how to restore back to factory settings. From ubuntu 11.10 to Factory Settings.

I tried BIOS booting. But it won't work.

Please help me.

We would have to know your make and model of computer to be able to advise you how to run Factory Recovery. But if you installed Ubuntu it may have overwritten your Recovery partition or its ability to run from boot. Did you make your Factory Recovery disks first?

If your Recovery partition will not run by tapping the key given for it on first boot screen, and you don't have your Recovery disks, then your choices are to order Recovery Disks from your computer maker's Tech Support or follow these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

My computer is a 64-bit Gateway. Currently installed Linux -Ubuntu 11.10
If I order recovery disks. Is it 100% sure it will restore my computer back?

Yes, that's what Recovery Disks do.

However is there is GRUB on the drive, I would wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command
accessing DISKPART At PC Startup to clean the boot sector of GRUB code.

First you can try running Gateway Factory Recovery following these steps for Win7 computers: http://support.gateway.com/s/software/microsof/vista/7515418/7515418su531.shtml. The exact key to tap at boot will be shown on first boot screen.
Gateways which originally came with Vista use the Alt + F10 keys.

Do you still have Windows recovery partition on your HD or did it get wiped out during Linux install? If you still have the partition, see my thread about recovery after Ubuntu install. You can burn a partition tool CD from Linux and use it to view and modify partitions on your HD (since Ubuntu partition tool has a prob with some aspects of ntfs partitions apparently, better use 3rd party tool I think). Tools like Partition Wizard may let you roll back to old partitions and have an option for MBR repair. Also, if you you still have a recovery Win partition but can't start it, try burning System Recovery Tool CD, it might be able to fix your boot record.

@ursusr I don't have the Windows recovery portion. Got wiped.

Did you try to do a roll back to old partitions then? Most likely it's not possible, but never hurts to try...

First you can try running Gateway Factory Recovery following these steps for Win7 computers: Gateway Support - Full Factory Recovery. The exact key to tap at boot will be shown on first boot screen.
Gateways which originally came with Vista use the Alt + F10 keys.

I went to this page Gateway Support - Full Factory Recovery like you told me. And when I was booting up. I pressed F8 repeatedly, but nothing happened.

Did you try holding down Alt key at boot then repeatedly tapping F10?

If you know for sure the Recovery partition was deleted then your choice are to order Recovery Disks from Gateway, or go for a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 without the preinstalled factory bloatware and utilities. All of the steps are in the blue link.

Does your computer have an activation key somewhere on the outside of the case ?

I don't have a recovery partition.
And in any chance, do you know where I could order the Recovery Disks from Gateway?

Well then, if you wanted to you could follow Gregs advice to download the iso file ( your version ) then burn it to dvd using Imgburn at 4x speed. Install windows and activate it with your key.

Would you like to try a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to compare and decide if you still want to order the factory bloatware?

All the steps are in the blue link above.
I'm going to try that in a little bit. But I previously tried with PowerIso and WinToFlash. and failed. Hopefully this will work.
Well then, if you wanted to you could follow Gregs advice to download the iso file ( your version ) then burn it to dvd using Imgburn at 4x speed. Install windows and activate it with your key.

I'll use his advice, if it fails, i'll order the recovery disk.
