Solved Installed Windows 7 64 Bit Lastnight but lost some of my hard drive

Before the clean install my 250g hard drive was split into C, D and F drive.

During the install i told Windows to install 7 onto the C drive.

Then i decided to delete the F drive using the delete option in the belief that it would merge to C

However once the install had completed im missing almost 100g of hard drive (the total of the F drive)

I know the 100g is phyiscally there but i cant see it in Windows and so cant use it. Is there any way to get this back so it shows in My Computer?

Will i have to reinstall Windows 7 to get it back?

Right-click "Computer" then left-click "Manage". Look for "Disk Management" and click that. You should see a graphical display of your physical drives and their partitions.

I can see it as 'allocated space'

When i right click the option is for New Siple Volume

Any ideas how i can get this made active? I've tried Partition Wizard but it didnt work

Do you want to add that space to D??

What choices do you have if you right click D?

If you don't see an option to extend or expand D, it may be because your situation is complicated by that extended partition (the green border).

You could likely get around that by temporarily moving everything on D to C, so D is empty.

Then delete the empty D.

That should give you C, with a bunch of unallocated space to the right of C.

Then make a new extended partition taking up ALL of the unallocated space.

Then make a logical partition inside that extended. Call it D.

Then move the stuff you temporarily moved to C back to D.

I'd do what I suggested. Move stuff temporarily to C. Delete D, so you then have C, with a bunch of unallocated space to the right.

Then recreate D, making it take up ALL of that unallocated space.

Then move stuff back.

Back up your data before beginning.

There may be a slicker way with Partition Wizard, but you say it failed. So probably easier to do it my way.

Do NOT NOT NOT accept any choice that offers you dynamic partitions.

Now that I look at it, you only have C, D, and System Reserved.

So, you should be able to avoid extended partitions.

Just move the stuff to C, then delete D. Then make a new regular D, not an extended D.

If you end up with an extended D, that's OK too.

That looks OK. You can leave it like that if you want.

If you don't want to keep data on C, you could shrink C, which would create unallocated space to the right of C and then make a D from that unallocated space and move the data from C to D.

It's entirely personal preference.

The only option io had with the unallocated space was to make it a Simple Volume

Yeah, that's fine. Good job.

If you tried to shrink C or D to make a 4th partition, you would probably get a warning about dynamic disks, because you would be going to more than 3 partitions. Avoid dynamic at all costs.

If you do want a 4th partition, you would have to make an "extended" partition like you had before with the green border. Those are fine too, but you don't need to go that route if you keep it to 3 or fewer.
