I currently have Win 7 Home 32 bit installed. I will be upgrading my system and using a new Sata hard drive.
I would like to install my Win 7 retail upgrade disk [ the 64 bit version ] on the new drive.
Can I do this? If so what would be the easiest way to retain all information from my current 32 bit drive?

When changing from 32 bit to 64 you MUST do a clean install and therefor have to re-install the apps.

Upgrade disk? Not full redial, or OEM?

Yes, you can do it.

"Information". What "information"???

The Windows "information" will be wiped out, bye bye.

Your personal files "information" needs to be backed up before you begin.

Great so You are going to do a clean install to an empty drive. My concern is stil what version of win 7 you have. (full retail, oem, upgrade.)

I tried doing a clean install of my current hard drive and I was not able to see the option to Format so I cancelled the install. Why no format option?

Retail Upgrade is what you need. Good.

You won't see a "format" option per se. Just create the partitions midway into the install. Formatting will be done automatically.

If you click drive options, format should show up.

I I believe that option was greyed or didn't work.

At what point should the new 64 bit drivers be installed?

No need to keep it. I'd delete it.

Look for choices about keeping or deleting partitions.

Drivers are installed later on in the install. Windows does a good job on them and you may not need to get any drivers from another source.

Starting with a new Sata drive I won't have to deal with that, correct?

Deal with what specifically??

If it's a new drive, it will have no partitions. You'd have to make at least one for C during the installation. More if you choose to. Look for "drive options, advanced" or words to that effect.

So when is the new Windows 8 coming out.

Windows developer preview is already out. Windows consumer preview comes out Feb 29

It is different than win 7. I am running it but it takes some getting used to.

If you install to a HD with an OS already on it, when you boot the Win7 Upgrade version installer it will see an OS to allow use of Upgrade version key during install..

If you install to a blank or wiped HD, you'll need to Skip inserting the key during install then afterwards do the quick registry edit given here to activate Upgrade version on clean HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

The illustrated steps for booted install are here: Clean Install Windows 7
