If I go buy a Intel Core i7 extreme and replace it with my Intel Dual Core will it be that simple?

You need to stay with a socket 775 CPU if you want to upgrade what you have currently.

I wish to replace my existing Processor and Motherboard.
Can I maintain the existing status of my C: drive (operation system and programs)
Can I replace the components and THEN update the MB Bios and drivers.
