Installing Google Chrome

Have any of you guys installed Google Chrome "normally" in the Program Files x86 or Program Files folder. I'm pretty sure the updater would not work but we could always update it like any other program. Why did Google make Chrome like it is? Is it because of the updater? I could do some testing but I was wondering if you know how to make it work outside the "appdata" folder. Thanks

I've been using Chromium, the developer release of Chrome, since 7100. At that time Chrome wouldn't install at all, but the more bleeding edge developer release was patched already, and has always worked fine since.

When looking for information on that, it seems that now it's called Chrome, from the developer channel. Get it here:

Hello Nate, the main reason its installed to appdata as opposed to Program files, is because its meant to have different/customized settings for each user on the computer.

If it installed to Program files that'd be a lot harder to accomplish because it would be the same settings shared across everyone, when its in appdata its different for everyone so it makes things a lot easier.

I see....Thanks. I am the only user on my computers. I guess it's not hurting anything. I just wondered if anyone was running it different. Thanks for the info. I will continue to research this. I might try some "experiments" to see if I can get it working a dufferent way. I'm sure it's been done. I wish Google would give you the option at install to use the updater or not, but it's good for patches in the "early months" I suppose.

If your a dev build tester like myself, the update is good. Just not when it updates without telling you and crashes Chrome like it did on OS X.. but thats another story.

Let me know what kind of 'tests' you try and what your results are.
