Installing linux mint 16

right so i got my win 7 + 8.1 all good with all the raids what ever ........ so unplugged all that and trying to install linux mint 16 or the cinnaman one 64 bit, on a PQ5 PRO MB on seperate disk

but iso dvd wont load the dvd player cant see it ? if i load win seven rescue disk it loads and i even reformated disk from commaned promt

run out off ideas any help here ?

After much research i concluded its must be a corrupt mint download so i re downloaded but instead of burning a DVD from the ISO i chose to add to usb stick using "Pendrivelinux" very easy to use program unfortunately still wouldn't work

then i was reading something somewhere and someone was advised to try a different usb stick so i fort i would too and success, i know have a fully installed and working linux mint 16 64bit Cinnamon

just got to get it to multi boot with windows now

I would keep it seperate on the HDD and not multiboot. That spells trouble. Just change the bootorder with the BIOS (usually F12 at power-on).

A much more refined way is to install it in a VMware Player virtual partition. I run all my Limux distros like that and I can run them side by side with Windows. Download this PDF from my skydrive for details.

But that's not the same. To get a persisitent Linux on a flash drive is not that easy and a CD version does not keep any data or settings.

A virtual installation is a real installation and when you operate it you cannot tell that it is in a virtual partition. I run even Windows 8.1 like that.

Since you appear to have Mint installed on its own drive, the simple way to enable multi-boot (and this way does NOT change Windows in any way), is to do the following:
1) Have all the drives connected
2) Boot from the Mint drive
3) Open a terminal and enter "sudo update-grub". This will regenerate the GRUB config file and you should see entries for Windows.
4) When done, reboot -- but continue to boot from the Mint drive. You should then see a GRUB menu with entries for Mint and for Windows.
