Installing Microsoft Picture It Problems

I am running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit OS. I understand that Microsoft Picture It 99 is an older program, but I am familiar with it and it serves my needs just fine. I used to run it on XP and recently installed a on new computer using Win 7. At that timer, I installed MS Picture it 99 with no problems. At some point, one of the buttons on the program disappeared, so I uninstalled the program and tried to reinstall it. I now get the error message "Can't open PITKINTL.DLL" I retried several times and finally "ignored". Program won't open and says to reinstall. Installation is from the original genuine Picture It 99 disks. In checking the Internet, I find that the file in question is a Picture it file and is supposed to be on the setup CD. It just so happens, that I have a second set of Originals for another computer and the same thing happens.
My questions are. Why was I able to install first time? Is there another way to install this program? In the past, I have seen ways of installing a program using XP settings. How do I get to that option?

Right click the setup exe and choose Troubleshoot compatibility, and choose XP SP2. That might work for you. A Guy

That was what I was looking for....The option to install using XP settings. Sad part is that it didn't work either. I know the program is ancient, but the fact that it was on here once bothers me. Oh well, will try to find something newer to use. Thanks for the help though.

As mentioned in another thread, you could install XP mode and it will work that way. There are so many good modern image programs these days, have a look around. Sometimes change is good :)
