installing new ram but am worried about compatability

i am installing Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 however, it says "support for intel xmp" and the details SAYS its for amd but its lack of enthusiasm about the point and what it will work with worries me. i have an amd phenom 2 black x4 3.4ghz. will it work like its supposed to? i know it has good reviews, but more people have i7s than i know have phenoms

from what i understand it is, this is 1600 ram, my mobo is 1333, i was told my mobo should step it down, and tha't stepping UP is whats more difficult

i was told i need to call them, its a stock board, hp, they say it can only do 1333, but crucial says my board supports all types, as much as i hate hp and their "EXPERTS" i think ill go with them on this one

I compare the maker's RAM specs, Crucial advisor, Google search results for "<mobo or computer model> RAM Upgrade" to get a definitive answer.

I've also found that if there is a significant question, it's less trouble to go to a CompUSA-type parts counter if you have one to have them spec it for you so you don't have to wait for RMA if it doesn't work. since they'll swap it until it's right but usually get it right straight away.

im sorry i cant understan what u said very well, however, im buying from new egg so if there is a problem i can send it back. just want to be sure about the intel amd issue before i buy. but as for the crucial problem, one source says i support 1333 and 1600, another says i support 1600 and i belive it is 2000, but crucial says i support ALL of the speeds, and hp says i only support 1333, not sure entirely what to make of it, i wish there was somthing that would let me test how fast my ram can be, not by searching my model, but looks in the mobo drivers for what it supports

New Egg is fine and you can send it back until you get the right stick if it's wrong, but it takes a week or more each direction - whereas if you have a CompUSA-type parts dept in a shop near you you can do this in real time and for comparable savings.

the one up the street from me closed, the next one is about 90 miles away

Understand. How was the mobo modified from the HP model you had?

If it's an HP board then I'd go with what they tell you over Crucial which I've seen make mistakes a few times.

You might call or Chat HP to get a second opinion.

If your motherboard "AMD am3 24fsb" is the original HP board, it will downclock to 1333 since this is "the only speed AMD supports". In quotes because it can be set to run at 1600 if your board has DRAM and RAM voltage settings. If it is the HP board you won't have them.
