Solved installing new WD Blue 1TB SATA PC SSD SOLID STATE DRIVE

I have a 400 INTEL SSD installed presently, I'm running Win 7 64

is there a link to a good tutorial.? I didn't know you cant turn off an SSD. it jams up the system, I couldn't find where all the memory was going and it was freezing up. I need a bigger SSD in this thing the 480 gb isn't working out. my rig is a

I'm assuming the 480GB SSD is your only drive. How full is it now?

What do you mean by you can't turn off an SSD? What do you mean by the 480GB is not working out?

it has 78.4 gigs left of 480. it freezes and takes 2 minutes to start. I have checked folders etc and I do not find where the gig's have gone to. this seems to be the answer..

from another forum.."To answer your question, you should leave the power option to High Performance and never turn off your SSD. therwise, there may be a performance decrease and TRIM/Garbage Collection won't be able to do its job by keeping your SSD optimized and functioning.

I wouldn`t worry about it if you`re buying a 1 TB ssd, just clean install windows on that and you want have any issues.

Then get your data off the 480 GB, then format it and it will be fine.

When you do the install, just make sure the power plugs are disconnected from any other drives you have connected to the MB and make sure the new ssd is connected to sata port #1

If you don`t have a dvd installer, you can download a W7 Pro Iso file from here to create one.

Yes, SSD's are new up to date technology. But they are still very expensive.
I don't see any gain in storing data on a SSD.
I do have a 128 G SSD with Win 7 and Lubuntu on it and there is still a lot of space on it.
I have a 1 T HDD for data. I moved \Users to D: using Kari tutorial (sysprep).

Works great.

I would buy a HDD from WD, not a SSD. (Yes, I know WD bought SanDisk)
I would buy a SSD from Memory Makers

Yes, they are quite pricey.

Advantages to using SSDs for storage include lower power draw, less heat generated, considerably lighter weight, they take up considerably less space and, when moving large files or a large number of files, they are lightning fast.

Of course, everyone will have to judge for themselves whether the advantages outweigh the increased cost. For me, the reduced weight and reduced space required were the main advantages—those alone were enough to justify pulling the trigger on going all SSD—although reduced power draw will be a factor in the hopefully not too distant future. Lugging six backup HDDs in a Pelican case to and from my safe deposit box at my credit union was becoming a back breaking chore (at my age and health, literally!). Now that I'm using SSDs, I'm able to use a smaller Pelican case which, along with the SSDs, is one heck of a lot lighter.

Faster speed is a huge bonus for me, especially when backing up large files, such as Macrium Reflect image files. It used to take me so long to run full backups of all three of my data HDDs, I didn't bother to backup my recorded TV video files (most are temporary anyway; once I watch them, I dump them). Now that all my drives—internal and backup—what used to take hours can now be done in minutes. Instead needing all day or more to update backup drives retrieved from my safe deposit box every month, I can now do so in an hour or so.

I have very little to backup or clone compared to L.F. and others.
I use SSD's. I can do a clone or a back up in about 6 to 8 minutes. SSD to SSD.
By the time I get done testing them and renaming things it's a total of about 15 minutes per computer.
To me SSD's are well worth their money.

Now that the 980's or m.2's are getting out there the 2.5 ssd's seem like they are coming down a little in price
But I still can't constitute them for storage devices I can barely afford a 500gb ssd at 250.us more less a 3-400.us one so it must be nice

Don't feel too bad. I had to give up on buying a new truck to be able to afford mine (I'll be driving my '08 F150 for another nine years).

Heck, I give up a lot of things just to build a new computer ever 3 or 4 years.
I have 2 intel M.2 just waiting for when I do install W-10.

Other than doctors I leave the house ever 6 to 8 weeks to gather food and get a hair cut.
Over time I save money to build another computer.

I'm not complaining. I like being left alone; always have.
