Installing on a foreign notebook

Hi,
I bought my laptop abroad and everything is in foreign language. It's an ACER ASPIRE 5739G - 754G50Mn with Vista Home Premium. I wanted to get a new os vista ultimate or windows 7 installed. Some questions:
1. If I get a new os in english, I would only be able to clean install as it wouldn't allow me to update. But would I loose all the notebook's drivers?
2. I did a back up of the drivers just to be on the safe side, but if I install the new os in english, would the new os recognise the drivers if they are in a foreign language?
3. What's the best solution in this case? Getting an update of either vista or 7 and upgrading and then changing the display language?

Many thanks for your replies.

Hello Nag and welcome to the SevenForums.

In my opinion you have two possibilities. One is the upgrade installation and Language Pack, the second a clean install. Checking the specs of your laptop from interweb, I believe both would work without problems.

1) Upgrade & Language Pack
Buy Windows 7 Ultimate in the same language than your OEM Vista Home Premium. Do an upgrade installation, install English Language Pack from Windows Update and change the language. You get an English Wnidows 7 with all of the original drivers intact. The Win7 has to be in the same language than your OEM-OS. Works!
2) Clean Install
Do a clean install of Windows 7, download and install missing drivers. Your Acer should work fine. You can use English Win7 or some other language version and Language Packs.

Hi nag0223

What language keyboard layout do you have?

If you have a so called 5 language edition of Vista or Win7, you can define the language (e.g. English) at installation time. The same goes for the keyboard. I have a German Dell which I run with an Englsh Vista using a German keyboard. All it takes is 2 clicks a installation time.
As far as the drivers are concerned, I would not worry. They get installed automatically - unless you have something very exotic.
