Installing Printer and Scanner in XP Mode?

I have an Epson multi function printer which I am trying to install in XP mode. The reason I am doing this is because the scanner wont work in Windows x64 bit, so I have tried to install it in XP mode.

I went to the Epson website and got the x32 bit drivers and downloaded both the printer and scanner driver. The thing is though when I try to install them I get a message saying that I need to install the printer driver manually but I don't know what port it should go in.

I have got the printer working but I am now still getting the same error message on my XP x32 bit as I get on my Windows 7 x64 bit.

Do you think the scanner just wont work cause the underlying architecture is still x64 bit?
