Installing Updates Failure

Hi Guys
As requested, I'm submitting a new thread!
My original post went something like this: -
Since last Wednesday, when Microsoft sent out it's updates, my computer has, on each night since, told me not to switch off as it was installing said updates.
The following morning, it tries to configure them. It fails and reverts the system

The following day, it goes through the same process :cry:

I checked online and found a reference to running FixIt.com I tried that and the information box showed that the updates were no longer waiting to be installed.
However, the next time I shut my pc down, it started to install them all over again?
Yesterday, the PC rebooted several times eventually starting after approx 15 mins.... still without the updates being in stalled

I went to use the internet this evening and although my network was still showing internet access, I was unable to connect; Outlook wouldn't work either, although my wife's laptop could :sarc:
I closed the PC down and restarted it.... and guess what, it tried to install the updates again, only this time it rebooted four times before eventually starting.
Frustration setting in now!

It's a self build, (by my bro-in-law) and the original instalation failed the validation process and a new registration purchased, but I don't have any further info.

Now I'm really confused?
To produce the above report, part of it questions the validation of your product? (Although it states 0 I'm sure it is)?
Yet this morning, after another umpteen attemps to boot, I get a message stating that my copy of Windows 7 has failed the validation test???????

Hi Tom.....
I've just spent the last two hours following your instructions, (I know enough to mess a computer up, so went very slowly checking on everything I did as I went), only to get to the compressing the CBS log to be informed that: -
File not found or no read permission?

Why, as the outright owner of this ruddy machine, should I be barred from opening, copying or zipping any file I like? Grrrrrrr!
I did however encounter the following error code: - 80073712
Frustrated isn't coming any where near close to how I'm feeling at the mo :sarc:
I'm now being prompted to reboot in order to 'configure' the aforesaid updates..... I won't hold my breathe!

No confusion

In common with most MS error messages, the '0' or '0x0' response means that no problem was seen.

Your validation failure was probably caused by a 'race condition' where the Software Protection service was fighting for control of files or resources with your AV - and probably was resolved by the system after a recheck later.

I'll leave you to Tom's tender mercies for the CheckSUR results

Hi Trevor,

Your registry is showing corruption (bitflips) so I'm going to have to take a closer look at one of the hives

Could you zip up the following file and attach it to your next post please?

C:\Windows\system32\config\COMPONENTS (it has no file extension)

Hi Tom, when I compreessed the file, I couldn't see it, (nor any other file other than the four/five folders), so had to compress it and save it in a different location?
I've redone it and hopefully, this is what you're after.

Looks like you uploadedit to your private folder, rather than the public one - if you log in, you can move it across, and/or change the sharing on the file itsef
