Installing Win7-64 Bit Ent on Laptop with Same

I've got a Dell Laptop Lattittude E5500 that I installed Win7-64Bit Enterprise on a couple of years ago. Now, it's gotten so fragmented that I can't defrag it any better than 7%, so I wanted to format it, or delete the C:\ Partition, and reinstall from the same install DVD that I used the first time. Unfortunately, I can't get the install to work either by installing from Windows, or from DOS/Cmnd Prompt. When I attempt to install from Windows it gets to the point where it's copying files and gets as far as maybe 60-65%, then stalls forever, and ever. When I try to install from Cmnd Prompt, where it asks if I want to start from DVD. I've tried choosing to let it download updates, or NOT download updates, but it gave me some Error Msg, I didn't write down which one.

As I said, I just wanted to delete the partition, and start from scratch. How do I get there?

You don`t install windows from within windows, you boot from the dvd, there`s no command prompt needed either.

OK! I booted from the DVD, and it got about 65% through, and like I said before, it stalled for at least 15 mins. It LOOKED as though it was reading properly, but never progressed. No error msg, just stalled.

Any ideas?

Then entire Windows 7 install takes about 45 minutes and there are times where it might read files for 5 or 10 minutes before a new screen comes on. Give it a start and just let it go for a while. You need to sit near it because it asks you to hit enter once in a while.

45 minutes ?? Noooo way, 15 minutes from start to desktop with a dvd, sometimes faster using a flash drive, but never have I seen it take 45 minutes to install Windows 7.

Sounds like you need a new installer.

It could be your copy of Windows 7 Enterprise. The installation media.
Where and how did you get your copy of Enterprise?

Sounds like you need a new installer.

If you did yours install in 15 minutes, everything was not installed.

It depends on what one calls a complete install.

My personal definition is installing Windows 7 with all it's updates.
In my opinion Windows 7 is not complete until all it's need updates are installed.
As we know updates can take a very long time.
