Installing windows 7 64 bit

I have XP 32 bit and W7 32 bit, I have tried using the 64 bit disc, none of the programs work, they say they aren't compatible with my os, how do I get 64 bit windows 7 on my machine? I am trying to run the program setup.exe from the windows 7 64 bit disc.

Please assist

Are you saying the Win7 64bit won't install and it says it is not compatible
or
are you saying you installed Win7 64 bit and you are trying to install other software that says it is not compatible.
If so what are the names of the software programs and versions.

If you already have Windows 32 bit installed on the machine..you cannot simply put in the 64-bit CD with Windows running and launch the installer. The reason is that the installer is 64-bit...and 32 bit operating systems cannot run 64-bit code.

You have to boot directly from the 64-bit cd and install from there. And you have to perform a clean install...you cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit.

you need to format your old windows 32bit drive and then fresh install the seven 64bit

Booting from my w7 disc seems to be the problem. I think it's something to do with the mode that the ata ports are set to, the disc can't be read when i set my bios drive settings to s-ata, but it can be read when set it to p-ata, although when set to sata + pata, it can sometimes be read. I don't see why this should effect my dvd drive, as it's ide, can anyone shed any light on this perhaps?

I have managed to boot from the 64 bit disc and it seems to be installing now, hopefully... (keeping all my fingers crossed )

I take it all back, the copy of the 64 bit disc I made works fine and dandy, I now have it installed, however, the original fails to be read regardless of what mode I use...

The original what? What are you trying to read? Your old Windows x32 install?

You can't! It's gone.

When you formated your HD you wiped everything that was there before away.
If your talking about your x32 disk..why are you even inserting it in the machine?

The windows 7 64 bit disc does can't be read. I made a copy and that works fine, I have windows 64 bit installed from this copy. I am most dismayed that I can't use the original.

Sometimes an anomaly with the DVD and/or the drive causes an original not to be read but a copy can be.

This becomes even stranger when you burn the DVD again (at slower speed using ImgBurn which never fails) and it still can't be read but another copy of it can be.

We found this out awhile back when a newbie dropped in to suggest copying the DVD, and suddenly one of the toughest threads was solved.

It's likely extracting the files to the desktop (since they're good) would do the same thing, but in your case you can't run 64 bit install from a 32 bit OS anyway.
