Hey. Have somebody exsperiences of installing W7 from desktop. I heard there might be a problem with BOOT.INI if you delete old OS after install W7 from desktop. Is that true?

I did an upgrade install from my desktop, so I didn't remove anything afterward. Why would you need to delete the old OS after you do a clean install? Shouldn't you delete it before (if you're doing a clean install)?

You should have no problem installing it from the hard drive. I'd recommend doing it from a separate hard drive. Otherwise, formatting the drive won't be an option.

Also, why can't you run setup.exe from the CD from Windows XP? Double-clicking on the CD will likely auto-run the setup.exe file.

I can run setup from dvd. The W7 dvd works fine on other pc`s. Only problem is to boot them on my pc. I have 2x 80G disk, C and E. On C i have Xp.
I dont understand you properly what you mean.. from separate hard drive?

Why do you have to boot from the DVD? Can't you just double-click on setup.exe from Windows?

(As for the other hard drive, I just meant that if you run setup.exe from another hard drive, you can format the main hard drive without a problem.)

The dual boot and install from hard drive will be the best way to install W7. I have C (system disk) and E (logical disk), if i install it from desktop on E disk and change jumpers on hard disk that the E will be the primary. And format C disk with XP and set jumpers to slave. Will be this a good solution?
