I have ACER Aspire 1652 laptop which was preinstalled with XP it has a Centrino 1.73 G and 2 GIG of memory installed and 80 gig hard drive and I want to install Windows 7 but ACER do no longer supply any drivers for Windows 7 for chipset, graphics, LAN drivers for Windows 7.

Does Windows 7 have the necessary drivers?

Kind regards,

Walter

I cananot guarantee that 7 will have every single driver, but I have to rate the driver service as excellent. Very few have had problems in that area. Be sure to install while on line.

I can't say for your specific laptop but I recently installed Win 7 Pro on my Acer Aspire One A0A150 netbook. Acer did not have any Win 7 (or Vista) drivers available on their website for it. Win 7 installed drivers for everything except the multi-card reader but I was able to find a driver for that and install it to make my netbook 100% functional in Win 7.

I would run the Win7 Upgrade Advisor ( Download details: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ). It will tell you what the situation is.

Hello Walter, welcome to Seven Forums!

You should be able to run that in compatibility mode for Windows 7, it's worth a try; have a look at how in the tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any questions you may have and to keep us updated.

Hmm, that does not look too promising. Maybe you can get away with some work arounds and some of the Vista drivers. But it will only be really clear once you tried it.
You could make a "test installation" without activating Win7 at first and see what happens. I believe you could operate that way for 30 days. Then at least you can reuse the product key on another PC later in case it does not work out.

That Vista driver should work for the wireless adapter.

Make any Recovery disks so you can return to factory condition if desired to sell or gift the computer.

Then save a Macrium Reflect backup image of your XP install so you have an easy path back if Win7 doesn't run as you wish after troubleshooting any issues. Macrium Reflect Free Edition - Reviews and free Macrium Reflect Free Edition downloads at Download.com.URL

Now's the time to test your hardware and then wipe the HD to get the cleanest possible install. Run memtest86 overnight to stress test RAM, then HD maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) Then run Disk Check .

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update, set the SATA controller in BIOS to AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

Now wipe the HD for cleanest install: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation - Windows 7 Forums.URL

Look for newer drivers in optional Windows Updates after install, then any missing in Device Manager on the Support Downloads webpage for computer maker or that model device.

Install programs slowly over time to gauge performance changes. Don't let any write themselves into msconfig>Startup list as they become freeloaders on RAM/CPU/Start up and can spy on you. I only allow AV and gadgets/stikynotes.

Use a lightweight free AV like MS Security Essentials with the Windows firewall.

Finish by perfectly ordering the HD using state-of-the-art free CCleaner and Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers. Then save a Win7 backup image so you never have to reinstall, just reimage the HD or replacement using DVD repair console and stored image.
