Installing Windows 7 on a slave drive?

Can I do that? I have windows XP right now and i was thinking about buying another hard drive, making it a slave, and installing windows 7 on the slave drive so that i can keep XP on the master drive and have a dual boot setup. Is there any problems i would encounter or does it sound ok? thanks.

i would rather suggest you to set it on Cable Select mode instead of Master and Slave.

No problem. Win 7 will install where ever you want and create a dual boot menu to allow you to boot from either. If you switched the drives then it would be a problem.

is there any problems with installing another SATA hard drive. ive read that windows has issues with sata drives?

edit: so i guess you dont need to worry about slaves or masters with sata hard drives from what ive read. is this true? so basically i just connect it, boot up my computer, format it and install windows 7 on it, right?

Correct. SATA drives are not set to Master/Slave/Cable Select, they do their configuration automatically. And even if you were installing ATA drives, it makes no difference to Windows if the drive is jumpered Master or Slave or Cable Select.
