I am trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on the computer I built this weekend.

It's components are:
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard
Corsair 2x 2GB DDR3 1333 MHz
Intel i5 processor
WD Caviar Black 1 TB
Nvidia 9800 GT video card

The problem I have is when I am installing Windows, it can't find my HDD. It appears in the BIOS and I am trying to run it IDE although AHCI is an option. It's a SATA drive. I am pretty sure I have the most up-to-date drivers for the motherboard and on the MS website it says that the HDD is supported by Windows 7.

I have tried changing various parameters. I've plugged it into each of the 8 SATA ports on the board. When I plug it into the 6 GB/s ports, a driver shows up, but it still won't find the HDD. I've put the SATA drivers onto my thumb drive to try to boot it from there. None of these work.

Any thoughts on what I should do? I'm considering returning the HDD for a new one...

Run it Sata, not IDE.

Fixed the problem. And now have it running just fine.
For anyone else who has this problem, or problems similar to it, it's a simple fix.

The problem is the HDD was formatted in the factory in a manner that Windows 7 couldn't recognize. I installed Windows 7 onto another HDD, and used it to find and reformat my 1 TB HDD. To reformat it, go to control panel, system administration, device manager, and reformat and assign a volume to the original HDD.

Should solve everything.

Win 7 64bit installed fine on my machine with a 1TB Black and I just installed Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on a friends machine with a 1TB Black, Mine was an OEM Drive and his was a Retail drive.

Hopefully you don't have a faulty drive, as my first 1TB black only lasted 9 days before failing. I currently have 3 Black drives and they are working great.

Hopefully I don't have a faulty drive. That would suck. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm just glad it works. I have a warranty so it'll be easy to replace. It's just more of an inconvenience than anything.
