I have the following:
A burnable disc (CD 700MB)
A network connection (I can connect everything)
A windows xp desktop
A laptop I want 7 on

So is there a way to install Windows 7 over a network without the installation media? I am too poor to go out and get a dvd-r even know I have the burner, and usb thumb drive is out of the question. I tried some pxe turtorials, but they require me to run linux on the host machine (the one sending the image)

Yo man sup if u dont want to burn the file on a DVD Disc.JUST make another Partition on your Hard Drive.About 10-500GB,Give some letter name,Make sure its NTFS.
Then use WINRAR to extract the ISO(RIGHT CLICK ISO FILE then extract) over to your new harddrive partition. Open the setup file and do a custom installation on the NEW hard drive partition.

worked for me good luck:D:D:D

Good luck finding a good windows 7 ISO.

if you want to install windows 7 via a network, you can install Windows Deployment Services (WDS).

I currently have an imaging/PXE server installed on Windows 7 that will perform unattended installs of XP, Vista and 7 on client machines on our network.

I have had NO prior knowledge and have learnt everything by printing out and following a bunch of tutorials on technet.

Hope this helps :)

You can't spend $1.50 on a blank DVD? My supermarkets sell them! Not even $5 for a 4 GB flash drive? I don't mean to sound like an ass, but if you aren't willing to take some simple steps to prepare for a new OS, I wouldn't even bother. Borrow a DVD-RW from a friend? Hell, I'd even send you one!
