Alright I recently had to factory restore my gateway laptop which had come with a free windows 7 offer. So since i just restored the computer I figured now was a great time to Upgrade the computer. After it supposedly installed My computer restarted with the option of windows setup or vista so i went with Windows Setup Now I'm at a Log on screen with no Set Password or Username. I never got prompted to make one I first tried my Vista Username and password; nothing. i have no idea what to do I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Was a WIn7 Install DVD provided with its own Product Key?

If so, boot the Win7 Install DVD to CUstom Install, using Drive Options to delete all but the Recovery partition, then create and format your Install Partition to install upon.

It was not necessary to run Recovery to Vista to upgrade as you can clean install Win7. This is because MS insisted manufacturers provide a clean copy DVD of Win7 in order to partiticipate in the free Upgrade program.

If you have your Vista Recov disks made you can even delete the Recovery partition to use the space for your Win7 clean install.

Ask back if you have any questions. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Hello lad0recksy, welcome to Seven Forums!

Greg is correct about the need to do a wipe "secure erase" to totally remove malicious code so it cannot cause further issues.

Though there is a way to reset the password if you can't get into Windows but it may still be the virus locking you out; have a look at Option Three in this tutorial at the link below; be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.
