I have two laptops: one with Windows 7 Home, and the other one with Windows 7 Ultimate.

I am currently using the newer laptop with Windows 7 Home, but I would like to install Windows 7 Ultimate from the CDs I purchased (which I used for the older laptop). What do I need to do? Do I need to unregister the laptop with Ultimate or can I just install Ultimate in this newer laptop?

Thanks.

Hello vmhatup, welcome to Seven Forusm.

You will need a Windows 7 Ultimate activation key to activate the installation to the second laptop, you cannot use the same activation key you used for Home Premium.

1 Windows install = 1 activation key

Hi Vmhatup, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Although some other geeks laugh at me, saying this is stupid ;), I always deactivate Windows i.e. uninstall the product key before using the same key on another computer.

The deactivation method is described in this post.
