Solved Installing Windows on a Crucial M4

Hi there,

My system seems to recognize my SSD (through the BIOS) but when I try to install Windows it asks me for a driver during the setup. I can't really recall but it asked for it before I was actually able to find my SSD in the list.

What can I do to fix this and to get my drive to show?

I have that drive (128 GB version) and my ASUS Z68 board saw it fine.

Is this the only drive on your system? It does show up in the bios, but after you select Install, the drive does not show as an option? Is this a new drive?

If you have more than one SATA controller on the board, you might make sure it is plugged into an Intel port and not another version, just in case.

Where did you get your install media..Retail from store, or burned version..Flash drive or DVD?

Edit: Is the attachment the message you are seeing, or something else? I get that message if I remove the Flash Drive prior to selecting Install. Replacing it does no good.

That's confusing ... because I did the very same thing a short while ago (installed Win7 to a Crucial SSD) and it didn't prompt me for anything special, it just installed. Do you have the SATA port setup as AHCI or IDE? If it's IDE, you could try changing it to AHCI. That's what I had mine set to.

The error is almost always a bad installer.

Waiting to hear about the Win7 installer source, how burned or written.

I am trying to install from a USB stick. This has worked on a different drive before.

I'll try changing to AHCI mode

In my BIOS my SSD shows up as "IDE Channel 0 Master" I guess that's IDE mode right?

Edit: I just changed to AHCI , let's see what happens if I run the installer now.

During setup it still says "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

My bootable USB installer has worked before so I'm confused.

I just made a new bootable USB stick using that Microsoft tool. I am still getting the "no device drivers were found" error.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I solved it.

When clicking Install Now and you receive that error , click on cancel and go back to the welcome screen. Then put the USB stick in a different port and click install now again.

For me switching it to a 2.0 port worked.

Hi,

I have seen this happen when someone tries to boot the USB stick from a USB3 port. Have you tried from a known USB2 port?

EDIT: I see you just got it - that error is very common when trying to install off USB3

Just curious: What Welcome screen are you referring to? Is an OS starting, or are you actually booting the installer?
