Hi,

I'm on step 10 of the tutorial however im not too sure what driver i need to copy from?

500GB spinpoint SATA 3.0 - HM500JI - Mobile SATA - hard disk drives | SAMSUNG

I have found the above driver however im not to sure what to do.
Jack, install the driver in a known location on your your hard drive.
Use your device manager and under drives select the drive that you are going to update the driver.
In the dialog box you will se an option to update the driver. Click the update box and you will be queried for the location of the driver. Locate the driver and update it.

Regards,
Adrian

Irregardless of your OS being x64 or 32 bit you have backward compatability.
As I understand your issue: You have OS 7 installed but you want to add xp?
If this is the case there are some superb tutorials here concerning dual boot installations.

Hi Jack -

I believe you were in the middle of slipstreaming SATA driver into the XP installer when you asked which driver to use. The correct answer is the SATA controller driver from your chipset. You can find it on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer or mobo model. Unzip it and browse from Nlite to pick it up in the Add Drivers stage.

An alternative to this is running XP in virtual mode using Virtual Machine or Virtual Box if you have a program which will not run correctly when installed in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

Let us know if you need any further help.

Thanks for your replies however ive not been able to find any of the drivers. Any help appreciated.

That model Dell has either the GM45 Chipset or the PM45 Chipset according to the Chipset downloads on Dell site. http://support.dell.com/support/dow...ystemID=STUDIO1745&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Look in your Device Manager under Storage Controller to see which chipset your model uses, then find the XP driver on the Intel drivers downloads page. It will likely be Intel Matrix Storage Manager downloaded here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Chipsets&ProductLine=Chipset+Software&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel%c2%ae+RST)

If the Device manager doesn't reveal the exact chipset model, use Belarc Advisor to audit it from your hardware or to cross-check. http://download.cnet.com/Belarc-Advisor/3000-2094_4-10007277.html
