Insufficient user rights as an administrator?

It looks as though I am a Padwan and have much to learn:

I tried to turn off AVG Anti-Virus Free's virus scanner through its GUI to enable a game's trainer to work but it comes back with an error stating I have insufficient users rights and I must log on as administrator.

However, my account is an administrator so am I missing something?

Right clock the games exe file>properties>security. who is the owner? If it is administrator check to see if y ou are indeed in the administrator group, if not it is probably owned by trusted installer. You need to add your account to the group that owns the file.

Thank you especially for the fast response. I hope to remember that as I'm sure it will crop up again!

I did manage to sort of sort it before I saw your post by successfully disabling the virus scanners: I turned the annoying UAC back on which in turn was accepted by AVG. The error message I previously mentioned did give that as an alternative solution but I first ignored it because it was referring to it as Vista's UAC so I thought it was irrelevant.

The trainer now works but I would have preferred your method so I turned the scanners back on and tried to run it again but AVG sees it as a trojan and so doesn't allow it to run. Also, AVG's GUI doesn't seem to give me the option of manually verifying the integrity of the program. I looked at the permissions and ownership too and states my account as the owner with all the permissions expect special.

It looks as if I'll just have to disable the scanners each time I want to run the program. Thank you.
