Integrated card is dead

I beleive the integrated card on my desktop is dead. I purchased a new PCI card and installed it. When I tried to power up the system, nothing appears on the screen as if no signal were being sent from the machine. If I can't see anything on the screen, how do I troubleshoot the graphics card issue. Is there some other probable issue that I am overlooking? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

What was the "PCI" card that you installed?? When you open your device manager, what display adapter does it show... is there a yellow exclamation point??? Also it will help if you completely fill out your system specs... ;)

Hi newITdude, welcome to the forums :)

I think you'll find that with some motherboards, the BIOS actually controls which device to use (onboard/PCI/PCIe etc.). You may need to (if possible) try plugging your cable into the old slot and hold the power button in for 5 seconds as this can sometimes reset certain things (or at least it did on 1 system i fixed ;)). If you then manage to get a screen you'll have to access the BIOS by pressing F2 or DEL on the 1st P.O.S.T screen. In the 'Advanced' section you'll find mention of the Default GFX device to use, change it to PCI and It should be ok :)

Hope it helps :)

It is my sister's machine that I am trying to fix for her. The issue that she was having with it was that there was no picture on the monitor when everything was hooked up and the machine was powered on. I attached the tower to my monitor and had the same issue. She used her monitor with another machine and it worked fine. Smae with her VGA cable. So i figured that the integrated graphics card is dead. So I cannot go into BIOS to adjust any settings. The stats are as follows as listed on the outside of the machine:
HP PAvillion a6130n
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 5000+
3 GB Ram
400 GB HDD

The PCI card that I purchased was an EVGA card from newegg.com EVGA e-GeForce FX 5200. Power supply is compatible with her machine. On the stats page it lists "for Windows XP", however several product reviews were that it ran fine in W7 and Vista.

If the onboard is fried/overheated .. then that part of the motherboard chipset is most likely fried too. I have a barebones Asus computer, and it has a GeForce 8200 chipset/onboard video. It overheated and was glitching in my games. I had to send it back to Newegg and buy a dedicated video card to avoid frying the replacement.

Since nothing is working, I think that something on the Mother board is dead, since everything else works with that monitor. I would try to search for a replacement mother board for that computer. It will most likely be less that $100.

Which there is one on Newegg that I found, I'm not sure if it'll work for you since you didn't give enough specs, but it's $39.99

### BIOStar MotherBoard, nVidia Geforce 6150. Socket AM3/AM2/AM2+ ###

Has 4 Eggs (stars) and, 283 reviews. So it should be very reliable and good.

Good Luck!

First off, what exactly happens when it boots up?

Does it show ANYTHING at ALL? Or does the BIOS thing pop up, and it disappears with Windows?

Stupid question time, but is the monitor connected to the video card or still connected to the onboard video port?

RAZY, I have not tried CMOS reset. How do I do that? My formal training is in software.

Pull out the CMOS battery for 30 seconds or so, then put it back in.

found a link for your MOBO.
Go to the bottom of the list click clearing bios settings which will give you exact instructions, for now follow instructions for cmos (as there is a jumper you need to change)
If just clearing the cmos fails then try clear BIOS.
