Intel 3570 non k version and overclocking

Its it possible to over clock the intel 3570 non k version on a H61 motherboard, this is the board i have

msi h61m-p31 (g3) motherboard

my OS is windows 8

If you look at this chart it isn't able to Overclock it has to be a K version Intel Core i5-3570 vs i5-3570K

Could the OP not raise the FSB to overclock the rig? That's how to do it with an AMD with a locked multiplier. You have to be more careful with your memory speed and timings, but it can be done. Sometimes you get better performance over increasing the multiplier.

You can't overclock something that has a locked Multiplyer

Raising the bus frequency will raise the CPU clock. It uses the locked multiplier on a higher FSB.

Multi 17X200FSB=3400Mhz

Multi 17X220FSB=3740Mhz

Yep, you can only squeeze about 3-400 Mhz out of it

thanks for letting me know, im guessing it can be overclocked to its turbo boost speed

Yes and probably a little more. Go in the Overclocking section of your BIOS and change from auto to 40, that is 200mhz more than the turbo oc. If using turbo, in the OC section of BIOS, go to CPU features and set each core to 40. This will give you 4GHZ.


You might get 4.1 or 4.2 if you try.


You would need an unlocked K chip to get more.

According to the bios settings it only allows up to 38 which is 3.8GHZ (turbo boost speed), when i checked cpu features i dont think theres an option to set each core. I guess it must be to do with the board and/or the chip. Would be great to get those speeds of 4GHZ though

The BIOS reads the CPU and only will display options that are useable. That is if it's a locked CPU there will be no, or very limited overclocking options shown.

Okay, I guess your motherboard does not allow those settings. I have a I5 3330, it is a non k but allows setting the turbo ratio's higher. In this pic I selected 42...it would only boost up to 3.6. Does your BIOS have a setting to disable overspeed or limit CPU maximum?



Just did a google search on your bios. You can try disabling overspeed protection and limit cpu maximum. Then set it for 4ghz

I think you're right, it was the "P" chipsets that had OCing.

I think you're right, it was the "P" chipsets that had OCing.

I seem to have forgot about the H. I thought it would work like my old MSI board with the 3330. Not that 400Mhz makes a difference. Well actually it does, makes you get a K chip and go for 5

Does the board have the option to enable enhanced Turbo ?

At least all the cores will run at their maximum, not an OC but hey.........
