Avoiding code 43 error for updated driver

But no chance of making Aero working (even when forcing).

The driver posted by Kensiko installs okay for me in either normal or safe mode, but then shows a code 43 error and reverts back to the standard VGA driver.

I have tried unsuccessfully to disable integrity checks using the command lines posted by Misaki but get an "access is denied' message even when logged in as an administrator.

I would really appreciate any suggestions to get a driver working. I have the release candidate software installed on an HP/Compaq NX500 laptop with a 1.60 Ghz processor and 1.50 GB of Ram.

Finally got it to work using a combination of posts.

A. Turn off Digital Driver Signing Check

1. Create a shortcut on the desktop to cmd.exe (In the location box type cmd /k)
2. Right-click on the shortcut and select Run as administrator
3.When the command window opens, type the following and press ENTER after each:
bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON
bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
4. Reboot in safe mode (press F8 repeatedly during the BIOS screen).

B. Installing the XDDM Vista Driver posted by Kensiko

1. With computer in safe mode, open the Device Manager
(Start > Computer > System Properties > Device Manager)
2. Initiate driver update for Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor
(Properties > Driver Tab > Update Driver > Update driver -> Browse -> Let me pick -> Display adapters -> Have disk -> give path to "855gm_vista_driver " folder of the extracted driver)
3. Navigate to the folder where the driver is stored then complete the installation.
4. In the Device Manager, initiate a new hardware scan (Action > Scan for Hardware Changes).
5. Reboot. If successful, create a restore point!

Note: Chances are that the above steps did not work first time. Try a few variations & be persistent:
· Re-boot in "Disable driver signing enforcement" mode (a variation of Safe Mode).
· Install the driver against the Video Controller showing an error.
· Try installing the XP driver instead (I ended up doing this only to end up with no Display Driver installed which seemed to help with then installing the Vista driver).

82855 Win7 approach

First of all, thanks to Kensiko for the driver. My Toshiba Satellite A45-S150 which is not even suppose to work with Vista, runs now on Win7. I have been hacking since the late 60s (yea, I am that old and getting older not wiser). I enjoy the challenge to make things work the way they should. A note to Toshiba, make new drivers, they work on the older Intel chips....also thanks to the poster of this "hack" (which in the old days is meant as a compliment). I stayed with it and now my bublles float across my screen, and Aero works ....I installed all drivers on this discussion forum to include the windows NT driver from Dell !!, then WinXP, then finally the WinVista driver from Kensiko. I rebooted twice and so far my driver is still active. Also my notebook runs quietly instead of racing..!!
so, stay with it, keep going and ensure that you run the restore point just in case. thanks for your time....(update, August 12) Aero does work erratically and BSOD running DVDs but VLC player fixes that, occasional hickup..."hangs"), stay with it......!!!

Dear sir, this worked beautifully with me. One of the notebooks I own is the old Toshiba Satellite A45, now the driver sticks there and works nice. Aero still doesn't work I think because the "Start" circle is all under the task bar (I am not sure I explained right but I know you understand me ). Thank you very much.

Hi , i got Fujitsu Siemens with intel 82852/82855 Graphic card , i did try step by step the Frustrated way , but its always finding new hardware and innstaling the drivers and asking for a restart . Any ideas ?

Why doesn't it work for mine? After installing the driver using Frustrated's methods, I got a blue screen with error code 43 after the boot screen. I'm using IBM (now Lenovo) ThinkPad T41, Intel Pentium M 1.5GHz with Intel Centrino, RAM 768MB (at least it's what the system properties said - this laptop wasn't originally mine).

I am trying to install Win7 on my Sony VGN-T350P. Overall the installation works very well. However the video adapter (also a 855GM) keeps giving me a hard time. I have spent literally days trying to get it to work properly. I have found and tried all different ways, but none of them has worked thus far. Usually I end up with Win7 reverting back to the Standard VGA driver or even worse a BSOD.

Has anybody found a way to get the native resolution of 1280x768 to work and is kind enough to share how?

Best resolution I can get with this "hack" is 1024x768 which might be a feature of Toshiba rather then the capability of the chip. So far everything still works, I can even get the bubbles to float across with the screen saver. I do get BSOD running Windows DVD player, it works OK with other free DVD player I downloaded, although it does "hang" occasionally. Recommend you download all the "hacks" mentioned, install in this sequence....first one mentioned was XP, then there is a "NT" ! someone mentioned which I loaded. Each time I ended up with 1 driver Intel 82855 and Windows native VGA driver. I followed the steps outlined in the above threads, and after the second time the driver took, now my entire driver is 82852/82855. I think the problem is to "hack" out the proprietary addition to the manufacturer's layer on top of the INTEL driver. Once that is gone, it works natively with the INTEL chip only. Toshiba stated I could not run VISTA on this notebook. Not only did I load VISTA on top of Windows XP but I got all my Windows XP stuff to work in VISTA (my Sony Clie for example, which would not work in VISTA). So I am waiting for my Win7 package to come in and I am going to throw it on top of my Win XP and get my Clie to work in Win7, which started this entire rigmarole for me. Basically I think the manufacturers write these proprietary drivers to force you to buy new hardware (just my opinion)

I did exactly as it described in previous posts and all went just fine untill the restarting. Windows crashes after that fancy logo and text Starting Windows.
There is blue screen and it is complaining about the installed driver.

I am using Kensiko's driver and my laptop is Acer Travelmate 4000wnlci with intel chip.

Any idea's what to do next?

I also tried XP-driver, but no help. (Windows 7 keeps using standard VGA)

my solution (FS Amilo Pro v2000):

- all graphic drivers deleted
- chipset-driver (Intel852855GMGME Chipset) reinstalled with Intel INF Update Utility:
Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 800 Series Chipsets

result: two (?!) unkown video-devices (perhaps the two screens?)

- manual installation of I think Kensiko's driver, reboot
-> works

It finally works! Thanks to all who posted their findings. Without that, I would have never been able to figure it out.

Thanks everyone for lots of useful information. I have eventually got my Sony Vaio VGN-T2XP working with windows 7. I had trouble using the basic procedure outlined by Frustrated (post 42) above. However, adding two ingredients into the mix worked for me:

1) Follow Arathranar's (post 74) to disable the start up screen which forces a certain resolution and default graphics drivers ("running msconfig and checking Boot->OS boot information. Instead of the animation you now get text showing driver loads and the 0x7E STOP blue screen")

82855 Now working on Toshiba Portege M100


Thanks to those who posted on this previously to get me this far. Managed to get this working on my rather old M100.

I now have access to the external monitor and the devices are listed fine. Now have the .. one last problem though. The brightness controls don;t seem to be working, so I'm stuck with 50% brightness by the looks of it. Any thoughts anyone?

Update on brightness control issues...

Just to be clear on my last post. I didn't expect the Toshiba Portege M100 FnF6 / F7 to work with such an old laptop, but with the 8255 drivers in and working the brightness is stuck on 50%. I've checked in a few places:-

Widows Mobility Centre: The brightness adjust is there, but when I adjust it it makes no difference.

Power Management: Again it's there OK, but adjustment doesn't make a difference to the brightness level.

If I go back to the default VGA driver, then I gett 100% brightness, and no controls avalable anywhere.

Neither solution is really suitable, so looks like I'll be going back to XP if there's nothing anyone can suggest.. Any ideas on what I could try next?

I used these instructions successfully and my Thinkpad X40 is now driving my Dell 22" widescreen monitor at 1680x1050. Prior to the update I just had the stock Win7 VGA driver, and it wasn't recognizing the external monitor at all.

One small issue is that my Device Manager is showing two (2) copies of Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller. Maybe one will go away when I reboot... ?

YESSSSSS, this method works on my Dell D400 Windows 7 installation with the Intel 82855 chipset. The max resolution I can now choose is 1025 x 768 32 bits. Awesome.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite A10-S129, which is an older laptop with the 852GM driver. I've followed all steps above and the device manager successfully shows it in display adapters. Everything works great- except my current resolution is 1024 x 768, and I'd like to get it to 1280 x 1024. Is that just going to be impossible? Has anyone here done this process of hacking it to work and gotten a higher resolution (past 1024 x 768)?

I chatted with an Intel rep and they said basically Intel could care less about updating it. Unless a third-party does a comparable driver release, this will never be officially supported. Bummer.
