Intel ended support for this device after XP release, neither vista or windows 7 will work with this device , it will set the resolution up to 640x480 and you cannot change it, so don't try to install it on this oldie adapter.

my two cents.

Try using my tutorial:

Install 855GM Series Video Driver on Windows 7 - Tutorial

The drivers should work OK for you but there is a specific procedure to follow. Tell me the results. A lot of people got it to work.

Thank you lexxion!

Wow!

It was a lot of hoops to jump through, but that tutorial worked!

I've tried everything else, with no go. So I THANK YOU!

Now if I could only figure out how to make this thing rotate to Portrait orientation when it's in Tablet mode. :( Not even a Screen Rotate option in Windows Mobility Center.

I tried the procedure and in step 5 when i restarted the system after uninstalling the standard VGA driver, my computer is showing no display after showing the screen that windows 7 is starting!
It is not even going to safe mode!
Please let me know what to do. SOmeone help me urgently with it.

I did not experience this behavior before. You have to make sure to follow the steps exactly and do not use any boot loaders/ bios patches etc.

In order to restore your settings boot Windows 7 DVD and instead of install Windows 7 do 'repair PC' or something similar. You will have different options available.

I had already used a bios patch and may be that was the reason. \i formatted my PC nad reinstalled windows 7, and used this method. The windows took this driver and diplay improved a bit but I cannot still view display as 1280 x 1024. Movies are also not running properly, they are still cracking.
Anything else I can do?

You should be able to view screen at 1280 x 1024. I have it running at 1280x768 on my 14" laptop. As for the movies I noticed that when using Media player maximizing or minimizing the screen during watching freezes the movie. What you do just maximize the player before hitting play and everything should be fine.

Remember this is 855GM that is not supported by Windows 7 by default.

There is also no Aero theme when using this driver.

Btw, you have not options to choose 1280x1024?

Check Device Manager if there are no exclamation marks on the video driver.

You can also run 'dxdiag' from command prompt and see if the are no conflicts. I see no reason to not be able to run at laptop's native resolution if the driver installed successfully.
