Still waiting for the next generation :p

Intels Lynnfield (32nm) & DirectX11 graphics card.

There is no point in buying a GTX260 for me now as the GTX275 performs a lot better then the 260 :/ As soon as the GTX275 drops to ~160€ i will buy one ;)

This should be ok till DirectX 11 is supported by games and graphic cards.
I'm not even wanting the 260 for gaming...I just want a top notch card for the occasional game (old ones though)...great Aero performance...and maybe some photoshop CS4 everynow and then on it...wouldn't hurt if it could play movies well either...got any recommendations people?

Then even my 8800GT would be enough (8800GT = 9800GT).
Most games still run fluently. I'm also using Photoshop.

Tell me some of the games ur playing and or u plan to play in future, then i can do a recommendation ;)

I thought the 9 series had better power management? Anyhow...I normally play games (RTS fan here) like Age of Empires(II and III)...Civilization IV...any shooter game that I can't play on the 360/PS3...Starcraft (and II when it comes out)...Elder Scrolls IV Obilivion and Fallout 3...probably others but I forget. I want something that isn't old...can play my games on max setting without stuttering...and can run Aero and photoshop stuff adequately

PS the good movie quality and HDMI out native is a must...it being reasonably priced is a plus as well

Intel + nVidia = sweet electronic love w/ each other.

...though AMD is making a comeback, so there's that route too. it'd be my first choice. i like AMD better, they just tripped in the race to glory (Core 2 duo won)...

AMD + nVidia = sweet interracial electronic blah blah blah :D

I have to agree with the consensus on Intel/nVidia combos and I feel the same for the AMD/ATI combo.

I think the biggest con with intel for me personally is price. I could build 4 completely loaded AM3 Phenom systems with top notch performance for the price of a single i7 processor not a complete i7 system just the processor alone. For a fully loaded i7 system you could build 10 of the most insane AMD systems you could dream up it's crazy.

If Intel had a competitive price I think I might own at least one i7 system if for nothing more than a variety.

nVidia and ATI are both outstanding in my opinion. The only reason I use ATI on my own system is the simple fact I am running AMD. If I had an Intel system sitting here it would be nVidia instead. I have owned many of each brand and never had any bad cards. You only get a bad card if you buy a bad model. Spend the cash and you will always be happy.

HDMI out is a MUST HAVE for you?
Then i would pick the one from ZOTAC ;)

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 260 AMP2! Edition ~ 170 €

OR

Zotac Geforce GTX275 AMP! ~ 205 €

In my opinon the 35€ are worth it to be payed, cause you don't buy a graphic card every 3rd month ;)

Here is a "small" Test where i think you could decide if the 35 € are worth it or not. The Test is in german but the graphics should be enough ;)

I am looking for a processor for a board a friend gave me...the socket on the board is LGA775...I am looking to not spend much but I want to have some power behind it...thoughts?
Incomplete design parameters - mobo model number, please.

Hardware ages rapidly on the retail shelf and ages gracefully on the desktop. My ATI HD3850 supports HDMI w/audio over the DVI port with a $15 adapter. Total cost $40. Cards with HDMI ports onboard are available in this price range. WEI 6.9 w/o OC.

i bought my system september 2008
Intel Q6600 for £115
Sapphire ATi 4850 512mb for £120

Awesome price performance value at the time, i remember then 9800 equivalent (gtx if i remember correctly), was a lot more expensive, not so up to date with the battle anymore.

Same problem from me too. I hate intel pc(s)

I have three pc's with AMD cpu which are running good from several years. I never faced major problems then virus attacks;) My own pc is AMD/nvidia so i have voted for...

I have another AMD pc with ati gpu chip but that isn't good. Especially games which runs worst then my pc ( nvidia ).

Best Regards

I am looking at the GTX 260 right now ($159.99...20 dollar mail in rebate)...and it looks great...but I am in the same boat as you; I don't really know which one to pick: AMD/ATI or nVidia

I wish I could offer you some sage advice, but I'm still as lost as before. My video has worked flawlessly so far... so I haven't had to learn much about it.

I guess the only thing I would say is: Talk to the gamers. They live for video cards.

I have an E8400 on a P45 MB with a 9600GT Nvidia. I got the E8400 cause it was cheap at the time (it is now $80.00 dearer). I got the 9600GT cause I couldn't afford a 4870. :D

I've always bough AMD CPUs since my second PC which had a Celeron 600. They are cheaper and do everything I want, so I'm not looking to change any time soon. I have mostly always used Nvidia too - I just prefer their software and drivers; top notch stuff IMHO. :)

I do a lot of movie encoding and AMD simply has not competed with intel since the Core 2 launch.

I actually find this as a surprise because I work heavily with video and find that the phenom II x4 is unmatched at least for what I have done.

I seem to get a really impressive frame rate encoding video with the newer multi-core AMD chips.

But most of the difference probably comes from more than just the processor you have installed. Your board can really make a difference in performance when working on something so intensive on the system.

Something else I wanted to note from experience with Intel systems.

I had a celeron 2.7Ghz back on socket 478a and I always had heat issues with that particular processor. I ran that CPU on an Intel motherboard with 2Gb of Kingston memory copper cooled. I ended up buying a really extreme cooler for the processor just to keep the heat within a reasonable range under normal usage.

I still to this day do not understand why I had all the heat issues with that system because it should have ran ice cold with all of the cooling I had in the machine. But it didn't it ran really hot which was weird and frustrating the entire time I had the system.
