I am wondering if you buy an intel processor and say ur motherboard crashes will the intel i5 be compatible with newer motherboards?

That's a very broad question.

The i5 will be compatible with SOME newer motherboards and not with others.

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
A Motherboard only supports certain CPUs, there are no gray areas. Either the computer boots properly or it doesn`t. If you want to purchase a new motherboard you have to make sure it supports your cpu.

An i5 is a new cpu so yes it will be compatible with new Intel socket boards. But you have to make sure b4 you purchase.

well the reason i need a new one is because my old motherboard had crashed and i couldnt get one for it because it was AM2 and know i want to know if it crashes in 2 years would it still work with future generation motherboards

That depends on Intel's future plans for motherboards.

At some point in the future, you won't be able to buy a motherboard that will accept your i5, which uses the 1155 socket or 1156 socket.

Intel changes sockets pretty frequently. I wouldn't expect socket 1155 or 1156 motherboards to be common in 5 years. But for the next 2 or 3 years, you shouldn't have trouble finding motherboards.

I think that is probably true. The new i5 uses the 1155 socket and Intel's next chip, Ivy Bridge, is supposed to be an 1155 socket. So, you should be safe for a few years.
