Hey guys,

I was recently researching new computer parts and stuff for my computer, as it is really crappy, and I am considering the new Core i7. I was wondering if a) this CPU was any good, and b) if it would do well when running 7 with it. As well, I am posting this to create a discussion thread about this CPU, so feel free to post any comments or complaints about the CPU.

Based on my experience (and countless reviews all over the net) the i7's are very fast.

An article in PCWorld even states...."Core i7 seems to be designed to work with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 operating system. He said the computer Intel sent him to try out is running Windows Vista but that chip designers had specs on Windows 7 while they were developing the new chip."

Or read this post from johngalt.

Bear in mind that an "upgrade" to an i7 calls for a lot of new items (from Tom's Hardware review of the chips):
"The new CPUs will only work on expensive boards based on Intel’s current high-end chipset, the X58. Also, it runs exclusively with DDR3 memory, which isn’t exactly cheap either. The new LGA1366 socket also requires a new cooler."

Which chip? Depends (obviously) on your budget. I've got the 920 and am very happy with it. With the right hardware/expertise you can overclock this chip to 4GHz.

Just a few googles and you'll have more info than you can imagine to help make up your mind.

Thanks for the reply. I have read reviews which said the same thing as you have before, but I was a little skeptical about buying it becuase I have read some (by some I mean very few) negative reviews about this processor, such as its small L2 cache. But seeing as I have seen a marginally greater amount of review, like yours, saying it is an exceptional chip, I might buy it. And I am willing to spend the extra amount on the DDR3 RAM and new board.

Thanks again.
