Recent Windows update failed. During troubleshooting the Windows Troubleshooter reported needing to repair default directory or something. Part of the report of what it did says that I have an AMD64 processor. Supposedly I have in Intel I3. Is windows incapableof determining the difference? Device Manager reports ACPI x64 based computer. This is a brand new Toshiba Satellite notebook with very little time on it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This is probably what you saw,

x86-64 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Microsoft Windows: x86-64 versions of Windows use the AMD64 moniker internally to designate various components which use or are compatible with this architecture. For example, the system directory on a Windows x86-64 Edition installation CD-ROM is named "AMD64", in contrast to "i386" in 32-bit versions.

Thank you

OK, I'm the 7 millionth person to ask this question :D. CPU-Z reports Intel I3 as expected. Good to know since I was momentarily paranoid that my notebook was labeled Intel on the outside but Intel wasn't inside.
Thanks to all who replied.

Now I can get back to understanding why my Critical .NET update fails.
Best regards,
Steve C.

Would help if you expanded on the .net problem; any error code(s), which .net update, etc.

Thank you all for your interest and offers to help. I hadn't provided any detail about the other problem because I hadn't intended to solicit further assistance at the time. However, due to your interest and my frustration I've reconsidered. I will post more detail after I've rerun my scenario and carefully noted all the desired information. Thank you again.
Best regards,
Steve

Thank you all for your help. Idid solve the problem by following your suggestions. However the trip was a little bumpy. Uninstalling .Net took several tries. It said it had done it but it still showed in Control Panel programs. Tried rebootong, etc. Can't remember what actually worked but eventually after Windows gave conflicting messages about whether I needed updates or not, I managed to reinstall .Net and then the original update without further issue. Strange. Thanks again.
