I was wondering can this be a cause of stuttering in games? I get high fps and sometimes i get these little mini jerks. I was wondering if anyone knows a little more about this.

Hi sotorious,

Is your question generic, or specific to a problem you're having?

If it's specific, I have to say that you haven't provided enough information to seriously answer the question. That the question as is can only lead to guesswork and supposition.

If it's generic, I suppose it would be like asking if Windows 7 causes game problems; completely debatable, and dependent on the game(s).

You might want to look at my "How to ask for help" guide in my signature.

Sorry, and good luck.

basically in general as well in me having some problems with HoN and BC2 and a few other games. Ever since i upgraded my pc from my old E6600 seems like no games run as smooth then again i was also on xp and totally diff hardware. I dont know what to blame anymore.

Ive done everything known to man besides disable HT this is why i am asking.

Ive been doing research since October. I fixed a few games but it keeps to appearing in new titles which leads me to stop playing them.

Thanks for listing your system specs, that helps. Have you looked through my Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues? It "might" give you some ideals you might not of thougt of.

I'm still not exactly sure what your problem is other than "seems like no games run as smooth". Your system specs look fine, I just upgraded to an i7 system myself so I don't see the system being the problem. Have a look at mine.

Also, have you updated your DirectX Files? Again, look at my tips guide.

Let me know.

Here's what you can try - disable Crossfire, or at least use your 5970 in single GPU mode (you know what I mean), essentially disabling 1 GPU, and run only in "crippled" mode. See if it cures the stuttering. CrossFire and SLI are prone to stuttering problems (that's why I don't use both), synchronizing frame data from 2 VERY HIGH SPEED HIGH PERFORMANCE graphic processors can be a hit-and-miss business, it's normal to have a little bit of stuttering with CF/SLI, most of the users won't even recognize that it's there... (I'm one of those who can, and doesn't like it). IIRC Anandtech have covered this issue in the past (or is it another site? I forgot), go google it if you are keen to find out.

My 2nd core stays disabled most of the time because a lot of games have issues with 2 cores.

A little more info would be helpful here. I've been gaming with a Core 2 Quad (Q6600) since Vista (64-bit). Games played include....

Farcry - the first and only "Farcry"
Farcry 2 - (the fake)
Half-Life 2 series (EP 1&2)
FEAR 1&2, including expansions
STALKER (hated it))
Lost Planet
Crysis
Time Shift
Crysis Warhead
Bioshock 1&2
Fallout 3
Boarderlands
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect 1&2

The only game I ever had an issue with is Time Shift, and that turned out to be a v-card issue. Sooooo......

It wasn't clear. I was thinking about his second post - the one that says "seems like no games run as smooth" Also had his E6600 processor in mind (Duo core?).

I guess we got lost in transition.

Thanks

sotorius, if disabling CF doesn't solve your problem, here's what you can try - go to BIOS, disable any power management/power saving that your processor supports (so that it won't underclock without your knowledge), make sure you have the latest AMD ATi Driver (IIRC it's 10.4), but UNINSTALL the old driver first, and clean it up using Ccleaner or something similar. See if it helps...

I'm still curious as to what the "problem" is? "seems like no games run smooth" is just too vague for me. Driver updates "might" help, but...

My 2nd core stays disabled most of the time because a lot of games have issues with 2 cores.

I've posted some "alterations" I make to get Win-7 machines performing better in real time. These tweaks are only to get performance up to the level that WinXP had pretty much out of the box.

http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/81432-10-windows-speed-tips-dont-work-4.html

Let's face it, Win-7 has a lot of extra **** going on some of it interferes with what you called "smooth operation".

Multitrack audio recording/playback was erratic. Before applying these "tweaks" the system would drop audio for a second or two when stressed.

Download the DPC latency tool and see if you're getting any spikes.

nothing in bios is in power saving mode all disabled. Drivers are up to date, i use driver sweeper. As for a main game i am talking about is Bad company 2, also seeing it in HoN. those are the 2 i can think off of my head, and the only ones im really playing right now. just seems every game ive played latley has some sort of issue. whether i figure it out or not.

For the record i have no AV running in the background. Internet bandwidth is fine, this is why im looking towards hyper threading and maybe my sound card.

If you get a chance, download the DPC latency check tool. Very simple, doesn't even write to the registry. See if you have any spikes in the red.
