New processors and multi-core SOCs may have grabbed most of the attention from Intel's datacenter related announcements yesterday, but the true game changer (and I really hate that phrase) is the production release of the Intel Silicon Photonics optical connection components.

With the performance possible from this technology, the entire design of datacenters is likely to change, not to mention the basic architecture of large scale server computing.

Interesting read Shawn - but am surprised it has taken this long for something like this to surface to be honest. Having said that the 1.6Tbs is quite a lot of data and I guess at the rate of technology improvements this is going to be just another part of what we now take for granted as in the nano tech stuff with transistors.
I do remember making audio devices and systems with dedicated transistors and other parts in what seems like - not that long ago!

As if you could see any "light" something must not be plugged in.... and the system won't work.

Something similar to "when the smoke escapes"

Or now we have electronics that runs on "smoke and mirrors"
