Intel Socket 2011 Question

Has anyone here heard/read anything about the future of Socket 2011 (from a authoritative source)?
I've read a lot of speculation, but I'm wondering if I missed something. It is easier finding information from British Intelligence than from Intel.

Currently the Sandy Bridge-E is the top end for this socket, along with the X79 chipset. There is talk about Ivy Bridge-E coming in 3rd quarter 2013 but I've seen nothing that definitively says what socket or chipset will be compatible with the Ivy Bridge-E.

The concern is that a socket 2011 motherboard bought today will be obsolete in 6 months.
What do y'all think?

I think that Intel has yet to release anything official about Ivy Bridge-E.

My guesses: X79 boards will support Ivy Bridge-E.

A firmware update will be required.

The 6 core and up CPUs will be expensive enough that replacing the motherboard wouldn't be that major a consideration from purely a cost viewpoint.

I am almost certain there will be no 8-core IB-E CPU's......for that, you will need to pony up for a Xeon. Also, from what I can tell, there will be no major upgrades to IB-E. I think Intel has had mixed feelings about the future of IB-E, and are only releasing the new line because they already have money and time invested in it. I think if they could trash it and get away with it, they would.

Most of the leaked info suggests socket 2011 is safe, but all the uncertainty and secrecy is not comforting, and the road map timing is just weird.

Have you guys heard anything about the 8th generation chipset?
