Intel SSD and Windows 7

I did a re-install of Windows 7 on my Intel SSD. Windows had a pagefile and hibernation files on the SSD. I turned off hibernation and the big 6 gig file disappeared. I disabled the pagefile on the SSD and set it on one of my mechanical drives. Is this the best thing to do or should I put the pagefile back on the SSD?

It's a toss up really. I prefer to keep my page file on the second physical drive on my system which is the mechanical drive. However, it's just fine on the SSD as well...since that's really the only option with a single drive laptop.

Ahh okay. So a Page file really is necessary then. I didn't want to burn up my new SSD's cells by allowing a page file writing all the time so I threw it over to the mechanical.

You're fine leaving the PF on the SSD. It will not hurt anything.


I think its best to leave on the SSD, even if you make it smaller (like min & max at 2gb) as well as leaving superfetch on.
Either way you prefer to do it, on the ssd or mechanical drive, you still need a PF regardless how much RAM you have.

If you decide to have the PF on a mechanical drive to save space, I would reccomend leaving at least a small (400-500MB) PF on the SSD and then whatever size you want on the spinner.
