Intel Turbo Boost VS Overclocking?

In theory, as long as the upgrade cpu is the same socket type (PGA988), then yes; however, in practice, I can't find any mobile i5's, only one's already installed in machines. Granted, I didn't do much digging, but even if you did/could find one, Gateway would charge you an arm and most of the leg to swap the chip. May as well get the nicer chip now. I also just realized the i3 does not support Turbo Boost. Intel® Core™ i3-350M Processor (3M Cache, 2.26 GHz) with SPEC Code(s) SLBPK, SLBPL

lol, and yeah, sorry about hi-jacking your thread. :)

Yeah, theres no turbo boost on it...I was wondering why it didn't have any turbo boost...
You put the wrong intel chip up there too, it is the core i3 330M not 350M =P

The i3 was is designed for non-gaming home or school usage. They also include a graphics processor on the same die as the microprocessor. I'm thinking at their price point and power consumption, they weren't meant to compete with the i5. Unfortunately, laptops have limited upgradability. A SSD would be the most worthy upgrade. A Guy

Why a solid state drive..? I heard it is completely quiet ( about all I have heard, that, and it is very very expensive...), but as for gaming/ hardcore multitasking, what can I expect there..?
Note: If the i3 was designed for non-gaming use, why include a GPU on the same die...and what graphics card would it be equivalent to? ( and then i3 GPU + ATI 5650 = What equivalent graphics card? )

Games don't use hard drives (solid state or mechanical) while gaming; they only use the hdd to load the map, after that, hard drive size/speed/whatever is pointless.

Onboard graphics aren't as robust as dedicated graphics cards, so they're ideal for a non-gaming machine.

Notebookcheck: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics Card Review

I do like the GPU on this though (CPU might cut fps by 2-4fps). The CPU is a little low at 2.13, mine has the C2Dou 2.13, but has Asus Extreme turbo which safely boosts it to ~2.3 My games are fine CPU wise

For Low budget, this is a good machine.

I hook mine up to a 1680x1050 monitor and it does good. I usually get +30fps with medium to high settings.

Its hard to find laptops with good gaming specs. Most are very expensive. mine was low-budget price at $900

So an ATI 5650 is good for gaming? ( It is equivalent to a NVIDIA Geforce 250 GTS about...is that good? and good compared to the GTX model of it?) I currently have a G210 M ( 10 % below the 240M for gaming performance ) I really don't get why NVIDIA has the different models of GT , GTS, GTX and ones without a GT in their name...they should really just have one model, and for it to be GTX...I really do not know the performance difference when going from GT to GTS, to GTX and such...
hmm...I am off to compare the 5650 with a NVIDIA Geforce 7800M GTX & 8800M GTX...

EDIT: Your post above does not contain a picture for a benchmark...

Not a bad system for today's games. and most for the next year or so. but already games are coming out that like Quad Cores and higher graphics. The 5650 is also DX11 so you got that going for ya too.

The difference is ATI and NVidia. the cards have different chips, different specs completely.

some of the GTX cards are renames or overclocks of previous nvidia cards.

KK yeah, the only thing I would miss from going from NVIDIA to ATI is the physx option available, and the look of the control panel ( but that doesn't really matter =P )
'It’s 550 MHz Core offers 400 pixel shader units and 1 GB of 128 bit 800 MHz DDR3 ram. That is plenty of power to play todays games at 1366*768 using medium or high settings and a 3DMark06 score of 7221 backs this up.'
Thanks for this =P I will definetly buy this now and upgrade my laptop the only way I can : selling it, and buying a new one from the money that I make =P
