Just got an email, kinda funny from a buddy in iraq (Major). Thought yall might like to read it.

This conversation was recorded while flying from Europe to Dubai .

Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft at (location unknown), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am not in Iranian airspace, I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!'

Iranian Air Defense Radar: (no response ... total silence)

Love it. Great response from the pilot, they don't have much to challenge the FA-18.

As a country which lives, rightly or wrongly, under the threat of a sudden invasion to destroy it's "weapons of mass destruction", Iran is quite naturally sensitive to even the suspicion of potential infringment.
Having worked in Aviation in the Arabian Gulf for 20 years, I doubt the authenticity of the exchange. There are a couple of points which stand out in the conversation as being unlikely. I also find it hard to believe that any mature military pilot, would make such a provocative remark in such a sensitive part of the world. I am sure it was intended as a rather poor joke somewhere.
The story has been broadcast very freely over the Internet for some time now.

I don,t know ANY marines. I am referring to the (very active) aviation procedures in the Gulf.
