I run Win 7 home premium 64bit but I wanted a box that I can go to less than stellar websites with and risk getting all my data burned to ashes and not give a fiddler's fart coz none of it matters. I know I should learn Linux. That's another quarrel.

I use those lovely removable bays so I can swap out HDs like it was free.

So pulled my win 7 drive and inserted my trash drive that I did a quick format on And installed my VP OS hoping to get one last up date before they shut that puppy down from microsoft.

Well it appears that XP can't install on my mainboard. IT crashed three times. Blue screen of death and all while I was trying to do the install.

OK, I can admit defeat and go out to the garden and eat worms and cry in the dark, in the cold, in the rain.

I pulled that drive reinserted my Win 7 Drive and Lo that crashed with the same error message.

Oh Come on fer criminie's sake~!!

I ended up doing a repair with my OS disk and that fixed it.

Lesson I guess is trying to run different OS on the same board with different drives can be so much fun

Is that like Sandbox?

It is my preference to use a discrete drive.
I'd just load my Win 7 to the second drive on the notion that since it's the same machine it's OK under the license agreement, but I rather suspect that Microsoft would not agree with me. Or even if their Intellectual Property lawyers might agree their system of checking the signature of the system components might pick up on the strange hard drive and things could get ugly.

No one knows exactly what the priority of things checked by microsoft's system is but I do know that CPU and hard drives are among them.

However I can get a down-loadable copy of Win 7 with a license for about $80, so getting another license is not too big a hurdle.

Which raises an interesting question:
What is the process and cost of using my original OS disks and just buying another license? It seems to be an option available when installing the OS.

Can one OS disk support more then one license key?
There are people purporting to give away hackware generated license keys and one guy that I've seen has a you tube channel dedicated to it where he just hands 'em out like candy and Microsoft closes them down as fast as he puts them up.
The things people do to save a buck. I think Jail is one of the downsides. Jail is not good eats.
