Interesting problem

The question is; How come when I am connected to my neighbors WIFI (1 bar signal, 11mbps connection speed) it will randomly drop and not allow me to load anything until it picks back up? It usually only does this when I play Xbox Live Games or download things.

Its unsecured WIFI, and the router is WRT54GS, and solutions I can do on my end to fix this?

the lower the signal, the more likely your computer will lose connection

You can try to set up a wireless repeater in your house. Maybe its antennas will be better, and boost the signal.

It doesn't have this problem when the speed is 5.5mbps =( Everything stays connected but the 'recieved' Bytes just stop moving. :|

when the signal is low, the router/radio compensates by slowing down the speed. Given a weak signal, slower speed helps make a more stable connection

here are some cheap/free solutions

get your neighbor to move his router closer to your house, next to a window

make those ez-12 antenna reflectors for your neighbor's router and point them towards your house

buy a cheap wireless router that is supported by dd-wrt firmware. You can make a repeater with it.

Well lets keep morals out of this, =P If he really didn't want anyone on it theres the ability to securify (lol) it, which is part of that particular router's setup I believe.

Also would a hi-gain USB antenna help? Or would a repeater be better? :S

You could use Google for this research. This forum is not the appropriate reference source for mastering larcenous and nefarious behavior. Your morals fail not so much in your thievery, but moreso in asking your peers to assist you.

A shame that you would post this here. And laugh about it. The SF community deserves better.
