I am confused. I didn't think there is much difference in 8.1 and windows 10 preview. Doesn't 10 just combined the start screen and start menu?

Depends on which build you refer too,
9926 is just that start menu is pretty much a smaller start screen
Prior builds it was more like 7 but with thumbnails only on the right side.

Don't forget, I have only 40% eyesight. Pages without high contrast are very difficult to read for me. I usually have to engage the Magnifier.

I have a different eye problem, it is very hard for me to do high contrast or have bright themes. I need a dull theme. However, if cortana works well, you may not have to look at a web page as often, you can have her read it.

That is exactly my problem too. That's why I use the dark colors in the high contrast themes.

I actually like 8.1. Yes it took a few days to explore all the corners, But with the disturbing charms and corners disabled, I have no gripes at all. And I especially like that it is so easy to setup the high contrast themes. That is more difficult in Windows 7. Look how pretty and readable that is:

I see what you mean it is hard to set the desktop colors in high contrast theme to use some dark colors in windows 7, that why I did a custom gray theme. Even though it still bothers me, it doesn't bother me as bad as other themes do.
