Can't seem to find anything on the web including ms/technet about selecting certain drives to be used by the vm. The integration options for drives doesn't allow the user to choose which drives. Is it all or nothing?
Is there a way to select certain drives only for use in vm integration?
Would only like for the vm to see & use the host windows 7 drive.
I think OEM is referring to hard drives or other drives being listed in the XP mode including the C drive for the VPC itself being the vhd there. When installing Vista on the new VPC the only drives listes are the A floppy, C for Vista, and dvd drive indication from the drive used. No other internal drives are available.
The XP mode was designed to provide full access while any custom install is limited to just those seen in the second image.

Correct Night Hawk, I can un-assign a drives letter in the host (Seven's disk management), thus not allowing the vm to access it, but would like to just limit the vm from accessing drives with the exception of the host Seven drive.
Wonder if doing something like what is needed in a dual XP / Vista setup to keep restore points of Vista in tact after booting into XP. You have to make the Vista drive off-line in the registry of XP. Maybe if I do similar in virtual xp's registry and make the select drives off-line. Although the drives show as network based locations in V-xp.
Looking at Virtual XP registry, those drives don't show up at: HLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
(where you would need to go to view the available drives to do the above).
Anybody know if there's another registry location that would show the drives the way there are assigned (network based) in Virtual XP to maybe try something similar?
Unfortutely the only thing I found for not seeing any specific drive from being detected and showing up there was to first unplug the drive, set up the vhd so it detects the rest and back that up. If the drive reappears later once plugged back in you overwrite the vhd with the backup.
To remove the vhd you back it up and then delete that manually from it's present location on the drive where the item will no longer been seen in the DM. That's automatic there. I attached one already setup for the VPC but you could no longer run it in the VPC or set it up like you would from an isolated location still being tied into the VPC itself.
I doubt the Home Premium vhd for Vista would work since you need the Ultimate for Vista as well as 7 to get things going other then being run on the VPC. Well at least I saved on Vista at the time since 7 is far superior!
