Intermittent BSOD's

Hi there,

My system has been experiencing random BSOD's for the last couple of months, mainly regarding "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" & "CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION" errors.

I thought it might be software/driver related however after a reformat and fresh install OS install the BSOD's continue even in safe-mode.

I have run several memory diagnostic tests which showed errors in both sticks of RAM even when tested individually & in different motherboard slots, however it seems unlikely that both of them have become faulty.

Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated,

many thanks,

Rob

Several problems

1-ASACPI.SYS a major cause of BSOD's in the 2005 rev.

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

2-All the memory mangement crashes are Related to rdyboost.sys ReadyBoost Drive from Microsoft Corporation.

I would run a system file check to verify and repair The OS files.

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

How To Find Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Hi ZigZag,

firstly thanks for the quick reply and secondly for the detailed advice given.

Unfortunately my system seems to have taken a turn for the worst, I managed to install the updated Asus Driver - ASACPI.SYS, however when attempting to run the SFC my system consistently hangs, eventually resulting in the cursor freezing.

I am also now unable to boot even in safe-mode, as Startup Repair is automatically launched, which attempts repairs but freezes in the process :S

Could this point to a more serious problem, such as faulty RAM or motherboard?

Regards,

Rob.

Could be hardware or software but we need to diagnose it.

You may have to do an OS re-install if you cant boot up at all.

I just managed to run SFC a couple of times but it reported no errors, also tried unplugging and reconnecting all my hardware including the CMOS battery however I'm still experiencing BSOD's.

Sometimes it will boot up, however other times it hangs on the boot screen and prevents me from entering the BIOS.

I am still unable to determine whether this is a hardware or software issue... and I'm at a loss :(

Any advice or further suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

If it hangs in BIOS it is either in need of a BIOS upgrade, or it is probably hardware.

Ok just an update, my system seems to have stabilised to some degree, but I have experienced two different errors referring to the Windows kernel "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" & "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP".

I also checked my BIOS and its up to date with the latest version (P5N-D BIOS 1401)

Although it still hangs on the BIOS splash screen during boot-up, I have noticed that when the power is turned off for about 5/10 minutes and then back on again it boots up first time! Does this sound like a power supply issue?

Could be power supply, perhaps heat, perhaps a configuration issue. I would look at the power supply

Difficult to test without equipment and the skill set to use it. DO you have another computer you could swap PSU's on to test?

Yep, have another couple of PC's, just not to sure the owners would be too happy with me taking them apart :P

I might invest in a power supply tester to avoid the hassle of removing PSU's.

Sorry for the long delay, but to cut a long story short I had my Power Supply RMA'd and replaced by Corsair, as the Shop I had the old one tested at seemed to think it was faulty. However having installed the new PSU today, I have already had a couple of BSOD's.

Is there a way to check if the RAM slots on the mobo are faulty?

Regards,

Rob
