Internet becomes slow on external monitor when laptop's lid is closed?

Hi I am using a laptop with a monitor via vga cable, laptop is set not to sleep when lid is closed. So i close the lid and use it fine with external monitor but the internet becomes slow....dont rly know what to do. works fine when lid is open.
possibly a driver automatically becoming sluggish upon closing lid? please help thx
