Internet connection wont work

so i installed windows 7 professional last night on my labtop and i tried to reconnect to my modem at home. i put the correct security key because it went through but after 10 seconds it didnt work. i then tried to get onto someone else's internet that wasnt secured and that worked fully. the modem is still working on the home pc so its not an issue of it working, its an issue of it being compatabile with my labtop that now has windows 7. is there something i have to do with my modem? it was working perfectly for the past year just until i installed windows 7. thanks

It should just connect so theres some sort of issue , what laptop is it ?

are your network card drivers fully up to date ?

it's an hp pavillion dv6000, ill try the network card driver when i get home from school. thanks
