Internet Explorer 10 and 11 won't open most links I click on

Hi,
I could use some help with the following. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a Gateway 6 or 7 year old desktop, quad core processor, 4 gigs ram.
About 2 months ago my system was acting up and somewhat unstable so I did a clean install, downloaded IE 10 x64 and several other applications that I normally use. I also downloaded all the updates Microsoft posted.
When I started to go online I found that some links would open while others would not. I proceeded to download IE 11 to see if that helped. It didn't.
Now as time is passing the situation gets worse. Nothing will open unless I right click and choose to open in a new tab, or a new window.
I googled this and a lot of people have similar problems, but no answer to solve it.
This never happened before I did the clean install.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Did install on the same drive as 7 was on before ?
Might be time to buy a new hdd or up it to a ssd and try again ?

yes, reinstalled on same drive. How would hd possibly cause the incident that I posted about?

Not sure but it's a cheap one to try :/
Did you use cmd and clean all command on the hdd first or check it for error sectors with mini tool ?

no partitions on my hd, and didn't use any cmds as I thought by doing a clean install everything on the drive would be wiped.

Test the drive using mini tool
It might take a while for the test to run depending on it's size.

Clean or clean all is the best way to clean a drive,
Although clean all will also take a while to run depending on the drives size which is what by the way ?
