What is end of support?

Beginning January 12, 2016, only the most current version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical supports and security updates. Internet Explorer 11 is the last version of Internet Explorer, and will continue to receive security updates, compatibility fixes, and technical support on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

Internet Explorer 11 offers improved security, increased performance, better backward compatibility, and support for the web standards that power today’s websites and services. Microsoft encourages customers to upgrade and stay up-to-date on the latest browser for a faster, more secure browsing experience.


What does this mean?

It means you should take action. After January 12, 2016, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for older versions of Internet Explorer. Security updates patch vulnerabilities that may be exploited by malware, helping to keep users and their data safer. Regular security updates help protect computers from malicious attacks, so upgrading and staying current is important.

Hello Brink , and thanks for this info

I read that as well, because I was looking on news about updates for windows 7 in January, but that will probably tomorrow thursday 7 th.

So I have to find out what version of Internet Explorer I have. Needs to be 11.

I never use it but it's better to stay on the ball. Mine is dd. 16 dec 2016 version 11.00.9600.18123.

Can you please tell me if that is the latest version.

You can open ie11 or any version and hold down the Alt key and press the h and a key to open Help and About ie,
Just check the box to install updates.

Hi thelma.

My IE11 version is 11.0.9600.18124 & the last update was on 9 Dec 15 & that was with KB3104002. The update version is 11.0.26.

As ThrashZone says you can check what version you are running by following his method of checking.

I have no problem with MS stopping support for their grossly unsafe products but will they provide me an easy way to TOTAL delete IE (all versions) from the now unsafe Windows 7?

I thought not.

Thanks for the update. I was running happily with IE9 but upgraded to IE11.
No probs except it put a nag icon on taskbar about W10. I couldn't get rid of it until I found:

And that's not all. After download, installing and updating IE11 I got an M$ update msg today to
install 53MB of accumulated updates.
If this causes any more probs I'll just hide future updates as I don't use IE anyway since I started
using Firefox with DuckDuckGo Addon (no tracking) and it works like a champ. I would delete IE
completely if it wasn't intertwined in my brain stem and spinal cord. Like you have to remove windows
to remove it. You/I can strip it down but not completely annihilate it. Hook, line and sinker.

I might see what happens all my machines have ie10 and will most likely stay that way and unused
I use Pale moon 64 bit now for about 3-4 months and it's good enough for me

Might have to download Chrome on my gaming rig now that I have Origin and some games that are online only :/

Control Panel> Programs and Features>Turn Windows features on or off, and uncheck Internet Explorer, it doesn't affect the correct operating of Windows.

Internet Explorer is not a discreet component of Windows. Remove IE? Uninstall Windows.
Seriously though, there are some manipulations that can be used to disable it but not completely
remove it. But you need IE to download Firefox/DDG.
