Hello all,
The system as in signature - Win 7 x64
Preamble: the problem did not exist for a few months of using preinstalled OS on this Asus Laptop
I do suspect some recent Windows Patches, but I could be wrong.
Brief description: If after the system start (Reboot) I will go ahead and use IE8 (both flavours 32bit or 64bit) it will hang with hourglass rolling in a min or so after re session started.
The symptoms could differ a bit.. Sometimes I can use other Applicatios including ProcessExplorer, Task Manager, Firewall (Comodo v3) etc. in order to find out what's going on
Sometimes I cannot do anything - whole system goes to nirvana
The solution(s) rather workaround: Reboot the system and leave it alone for 3-5 min.
or
leave IE in hanging stage as soon as it happens. It will wake up by itself 3-5min later.
Other symptoms: If the user will desperately click on pinned IE
sometimes (not always) the System will report "Not Responding"
If the clicking took place user will have dozens of sessions of IE after the hanging ended and all of them have to be just closed.
In some cases there will be tips displayed "This Tab will be restored" or kinda like that
The Alternative Browser: the latest FireFox 3.6 - no such issue whatsoever
What was tried: practically anything that I could find out there regarding the similar descriptions
- Add-ons disabled;
- All Add-ons uninstalled;
- Java (both x64 & 32 bit uninstalled)
- Flash - uninstalled
- all security - uninstalled (please keep in mind previous remark - it worked fine for several months with (Avira free Antivirus & Comodo Firewall)
- even tried having just native Windows Firewall (active or disabled) to no avail
The only suspect at the moment: after the reboot I have this activity
Svchost.exe UDP OUT source port 192.168.xxx: 56705
destination port 239.255.255.250: 1900
It seems to be multicast , SSDP ( Simple Service Discovery protocol) to discover UPnP devices on the network /networked printers etc
The laptop is not networked ; it doesn't have even a local printer
It looks like when eventually the described activity stops IE will come alive, but that may be just a coincidental... I currently cannot be sure
Any ideas how to troubleshoot the IE8 hanging?
or better just switch to Firefox completely
Regards
