Internet explorer problem

I keep getting from time to time a message to say that IE has stopped working and is closing then reopens the same tab that it has just shut down.

Am trying to fix an old Vista laptop at the moment and it is driving me mad. This happened on my own laptop a while ago and I think I might have posted it but cannot find the post if I indeed did post.

Any ideas please?

3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Thanks Golden I actually did run that while getting ready for work a while ago and it found corrupted files!!
I ran the command as admin copied that into the prompt

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

from the Microsoft support site but it doesn't throw up any information?? So does one do it again or just rely on it having repaired the files on the reboot??

Sometimes running it up to 3 times, with a reboot between each, will correct the corruptions (it reports them as corrected).

If it doesn't, upload the sfcdetails.txt file here, and we'll get Tom/Noel to look at it.

Ok mate I thought I had seen run it for a few times somewhere but wasn't sure. The only problem is getting those reports if it comes up bung again, am not sure why the cmd search didn't show a thing or am I looking in the wrong place?

Perhaps the CBS.log file would be better.

I was getting regular crashes from nvwgf2um.dll



Which I was able to fix by disabling hardware acceleration,

No I haven't yet Derek I am away from the machines at the moment so will have to check tomorrow

Yeah, it's worth a look. It was bugging me for a few weeks before I was able to find something that worked.

Usually means a video card driver needs to be updated if software rendering works.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried after seeing the cause was nvwgf2um.dll

Well the darn Vista machine I go to the CBS logs and try to open it an zip it and send to desktop but it keeps telling me it is a no read file and access is denied??

I tried it on my 7 laptop and it worked perfectly. Mind you the Vista is running a lot better now so best left alone or better still get my mate to let me whack 7 on it
